The Madonna or Virgin Mary was a popular theme for many Middle Age and Renaissance period artists. I will be writing with a view of exploring the following pieces. The first is Madonna Enthroned with Angels and Prophets. [Fig 1] This work was by a prominent artist named Cimabue, or Cenni di Pepo, and was created in Florence, Italy. It is believed to have been done in the Middle Ages from 1280-1290 A.D. and the medium is tempura on wood. At dimensions of 12’7† X 7’4† it is quite large and is currently on display in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. As is implied by its title, the subject matter of this piece is the Virgin Mary and Christ. The second work is The Madonna of the Pinks [Fig 2] by Raphael. Raphael was also a prominent artist of his time, and has often been compared to Leonardo and Michelangelo. This work of oil paint on yew, or fruitwood, was created during the High Renaissance circa 1506-7 A.D. Also created in Florence, Italy, it is a small work, measuring just 27.9 cm X 22.4cm, currently housed as The National Gallery in London. Many people modern day use airlines as a form of transportation. To be able to use this service passengers must have their bags and personal belongings checked by the airline. Airlines do this for the safety of their passengers and to ensure that no catastrophe happens during flight. These people agree with the theory that one flat rate baggage fee should be included in the airline ticket. It is one hundred percent legal to bring a gun or knife on board of a plane, with some rules of coarse. And 5. The ammunition must be in the same container as the unloaded firearm. As long as when traveling with a firearm you follow all of these procedures you can legally bring a gun with you while traveling with an airline. Once again these rules might restrict your rights as an American citizen but they do NOT take away your rights as an American citizen. And there is also rules with sharp objects such as knives. The only rule that there is on these items is,1. It can not be in carry on luggage and it must be securely wrapped to prevent injury. So once again it is one hundred percent legal to bring a weapon with you while flying with an airline service. Also if someone fells that having their baggage checked is taking away their rights that is also not true. The FAA (a government-run organization) enforces these rules and regulations for the airline passengers safety and for no other reason except for the passenger’s safety. However, in the cardiac muscle the Ca2+ enters via voltage-gated calcium channels which initiate a regenerative release, through activation of the Ca2+ sensitive ryanodine receptor and this initial entry triggers further release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. (Rang and Dale, 2003) The mechanism of excitation- contraction coupling in the skeletal muscle relies on the ryanodine receptor being activated to produce the Ca2+ from the sarcoplasmic reticulum that is responsible for allowing muscle contraction. This is evident of direct coupling between the calcium channels of the T-tubule and the ryanodine receptors of the sarcoplasmic reticulum. The cardiac muscles lack T-tubules and therefore, there is no direct coupling between the plasma membrane and the sarcoplasmic reticulum. In cardiac muscles, the mechanism relies on a calcium-induced calcium release, which includes the conduction of calcium ions into the cell, causing the further release of ions. (Rang and Dale, 2003) The duration of action potential also differs for the skeletal and cardiac muscles. In the skeletal muscles, the action potential short and ends as the related twitch contraction begins. The twitch contraction is short and ends as the sarcoplasmic reticulum recovers the Ca2+ that it released. In the cardiac muscle cells, the action potential is long-lasting, and Ca2+ carries on entering the cell throughout the plateau period. As a result, the muscle cell contraction continues until the plateau ends. Therefore, the cardiac muscle contractions are nearly 10 times as long as those of skeletal muscles fibres. (Silverthorn, 2007) The cardiac muscle tissue can contract without neural stimulation, via automaticity and the specialized cardiac muscle cells called pacemaker cells control the timing of contractions.
